"Sunfiber + Lactobacillus" Helps Women Absorb Iron

In June 2018, researchers at Marywood University developed a new iron supplement specifically for female athletes. The product, named Regular Girl, can effectively promote the absorption of iron by women.
The supplement is a natural, gluten-free product that has been certified as a non-GM food. Its main materials include soluble fiber sunfiber (a kind of high-stability fiber) and lactobacillus. It does not contain eggs, yeast, soybeans, sugar, salt, artificial flavors or preservatives.
Researchers recruited 20 female athletes who were iron-deficient and randomly divided them into two groups. One group was given daily supplements of sunfiber and lactobacillus, along with ferrous sulfate and was labeled Regular Girl. Another group took only 140 milligrams of ferrous sulfate and placebo a day, and constituted the control group. After one month, the serum ferritin levels in the Regular Girl group increased by 41%, whereas those in the control group remained unchanged. After two months, the serum ferritin of Regular Girl group members almost doubled.
Dr.DellaValle, an associate professor at Maywood University who led the study, said the results clearly showed that supplements containing sunfiber and lactobacillus significantly increase iron intake. Based on this, he noted, Regular Girl can help with the absorption of certain minerals, especially for female athletes.
If lactobacilli were added to the iron-deficient female athletes, it would not only increase their iron absorption, but also increase the iron bioavailability of non-heme iron and mixed supplements.
Studies have shown that 30% of female athletes are iron-deficient. Non-heme iron is the world's most abundant source of dietary iron, and the addition of soluble fiber sunfiber and lactobacillus supplements can promote the absorption of non-heme iron, thereby improving iron intake for women.
