The beverage crate industry was one of the first to adopt what is now called a truly circular approach to packaging products. The DS Smith Plastics design team in Bilzen, Belgium, has designed a solution for Fillbee that combines returnable crates with returnable packaging to take recycling packaging to a new level.
This is a recyclable 4-6 pack that can be designed for any shape of bottle. These can be packed in a beverage container or stacked on top of each other. Bottles can be placed directly into baskets on the existing filling line, greatly simplifying the complexity of the line and reducing investment.
Typically, recyclable bottle crates are used either with loose bottles or with one-way packaging. DS Smith's Fillbee, by contrast, fits neatly into a regular, recyclable crate, meaning glass or polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles can fit directly into baskets on the existing line of loosely filled bottles. This innovation simplifies the production line and reduces costs.
Waste prevention is the most effective way to reduce CO2 emissions. The "mini crate" is designed to meet the requirements of a closed-loop storage solution and all environmental impact reduction requirements: combined with reusable glass or PET bottles, they are 100% reusable and 100% recyclable, completely eliminating consumer waste.
In addition, the packaging is reusable, recyclable and can be made into 100% post-consumer waste.
