Experts from the Arthritis Foundation have said ginger is shown to have anti-inflammatory properties similar to ibuprofen and COX-2 inhibitors.

One specialised ginger extract reduced inflammatory reactions in rheumatoid arthritis as effectively as steroids did, according to a study published in 2012.

Other nutrition status studies showed that taking a certain ginger extract 4 times a day reduced osteoarthritis pain in the knee after 3 months of treatment, and another taken 2 times daily worked about as well as medical painkillers taken three times daily for hip and knee osteoarthritis pain.

Fish oil

The Omega-3 Fatty acids found in fish oil produce chemicals that help reduce inflammation and ease stiffness. Omega-3 blocks certain inflammatory compounds and is converted by the body into strong anti-inflammatory chemicals, called resolvins.

A 2010 study found fish oil significantly decreased joint tenderness and stiffness in people with rheumatoid arthritis, significantly impacting their clinical health.

Exercise

Don’t forget exercise. Experts all agree that it is a great way to combat the pain caused by arthritis. Low-impact aerobics, stretching and strength training can all help prevent stiff joints, encourage strong muscles and improve endurance.

Most people say it is important to listen to your body when embarking on a new workout routine. If your joints are inflamed, take it easy and have a few days rest until the joint pain has gone away.
